Khanabad criminal court judge dismissed, faces charges for alleged $30,000 bribe
The Supreme Judicial Council has approved the judge’s prosecution and terminated his judicial powers.
Earlier, social media reports claimed that the chairperson of the Khanabad City Criminal Court had been detained while allegedly accepting a $30,000 bribe. It was also stated that the judge, identified as Y.E., had been appointed to the position five months ago for a 5-year term.
The Supreme Judicial Council announced that at its meeting held on May 12, it reviewed a recommendation from the Prosecutor General to initiate criminal proceedings against Y.E., the chairperson of the Khanabad City Criminal Court in Andijan region, under relevant parts of Article 168 (Fraud) and Article 211 (Bribery) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Following the discussion, the Council granted approval for criminal prosecution and officially terminated Y.E.’s judicial authority.
Due to the confidentiality of the investigation and the presumption of innocence, no further details were disclosed.
“The information circulating on social media regarding this case is largely exaggerated. All circumstances will be clarified during the investigation,” the Council emphasized.
