New wind power plant to be built in Tashkent region

A new wind power plant is planned for construction in the Tashkent region, according to the regional administration’s press service.

The future wind farm will be located in Burchmulla, within the Bostanlyk district. On July 1, regional governor Zoir Mirzaev signed a resolution allocating 10 hectares of land to the Ministry of Energy for the project.

The project, with an estimated cost of $28 million, will be financed through grant funds. The plant will have a capacity of 20 megawatts (MW).

Annually, the wind farm is expected to generate 129.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, resulting in a savings of 811,000 cubic meters of gas or 3,150 tons of coal. Its location is expected to provide a high economic efficiency factor.

Previously, the Tashkent regional administration approved the construction of micro and small hydroelectric power plants across 248 sites along rivers and canals. Of these, 83 locations were allocated for energy infrastructure in May, and 66 more were approved in June.

According to the Ministry of Energy, in May, Uzbekistan's solar and wind power plants generated 1.1 billion kWh of electricity. Renewable energy sources accounted for 17% of the country’s total electricity production that month.
