Uzbekistan sees drastic rise in EV imports
In the past two months, Uzbekistan’s customs authorities processed the import of nearly 15,000 electric vehicles – more than the total figure for the entire first half of the year. Seven out of every ten passenger cars brought into the country are now electric.
According to statistics from the State Customs Committee highlighted by Kun.uz, the import of electric vehicles into Uzbekistan rose sharply in July and August.
Open data on the committee’s website shows that 14,355 electric cars were imported in the first six months of 2025. In just the following two months – July and August – the figure was even higher, reaching 14,593.
No such anomaly has been observed in the import of gasoline-powered or hybrid models.
Between January and August, the number of electric cars imported was 2.5 times higher than that of gasoline cars. The share of gasoline-only models in total passenger car imports dropped to 26 percent, while 69 percent of all passenger cars brought in were equipped exclusively with electric engines.
Hybrid models are steadily disappearing from the market: their imports have fallen fivefold compared to last year.
In total, 42,230 passenger cars were imported into Uzbekistan in the first eight months of 2025 – 11.9 percent fewer than in the same period last year, when the figure stood at 47,928.
