Uzbekistan suffers a narrow defeat against Uruguay
The Uzbekistan national football team fell short in a closely contested friendly match against Uruguay, losing 1–2 in a game played on October 13 in Malaysia.
The opening half saw both teams battle on relatively equal terms, with neither side able to break the deadlock. After the break, however, the South American visitors took control of the game. Torres opened the scoring in the 51st minute, and Sanabria doubled Uruguay’s lead nine minutes later.
Uzbekistan responded by increasing the tempo and pressing higher in the final stages. Their efforts paid off in the 82nd minute when Ruslanbek Jiyanov found the back of the net, giving his side a glimmer of hope. Despite continued pressure, the equalizer never came, and the match ended 1–2 in favor of Uruguay.
This encounter marked Uzbekistan’s second game under the leadership of Italian head coach Fabio Cannavaro. In his debut match, the team recorded a 2–0 victory over Kuwait, showing encouraging signs of progress under the new management.
