Uzbek athletes achieved a record-breaking result at the Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain, winning 37 gold, 16 silver, and 28 bronze medals to claim second place in the overall standings behind China. This marks Uzbekistan’s best-ever performance in the history of the Asian Youth Games.
The 3rd Asian Youth Games concluded on 30 October in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. Uzbekistan’s athletes performed successfully, securing second place in the overall medal table.
China topped the standings with a total of 147 medals – 63 gold, 49 silver, and 35 bronze.
Uzbekistan followed with 81 medals, including 37 gold, 16 silver, and 28 bronze – the nation’s best result in the history of the Asian Youth Games.

A total of 183 Uzbek athletes competed across 20 sports disciplines.
The largest contribution came from judokas, who won 14 medals (7 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). Weightlifters (7 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze) and wrestlers (3 gold, 2 silver, 8 bronze) each earned 13 medals. Boxers also made a strong contribution, winning 10 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze).
Among the weightlifters, Munisbek Davletov, Marjona Abdumutalova, and Dilnura Kholdorova each won two gold medals.
Of Uzbekistan’s total medalists, 35 were women, 13 of whom claimed gold medals.
Kazakhstan ranked third in the overall standings with 24 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze medals, while Iran finished fourth with 22 gold, 18 silver, and 36 bronze.
Among neighbouring countries, Tajikistan placed 18th (2 gold, 3 silver, 15 bronze), Kyrgyzstan 21st (1 gold, 9 silver, 11 bronze), and Turkmenistan 27th (1 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze).
For reference, at the 2013 Asian Youth Games held in Nanjing, China, Uzbekistan ranked 14th with 1 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals. At the inaugural Games in Singapore in 2009, the country placed 20th with 3 bronze medals. It should be noted that those earlier competitions featured fewer sports and participants.
