Komil Allamjonov calls on U.S. to ease visa regime for citizens of Uzbekistan

From 2026, Uzbekistan will introduce a visa-free regime for U.S. citizens. In return, Tashkent expects Washington to ease visa procedures for Uzbeks.

Komil Allamjonov, advisor to the head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, has called on the U.S. government to issue 10-year visas for Uzbek nationals. He made the proposal in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

On November 3, Allamjonov shared on X that Uzbekistan would lift visa requirements for U.S. citizens starting in 2026. Under the new rules, Americans will be able to visit Uzbekistan without a visa for up to 30 days from the date of entry.

U.S. First Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau reacted to the post, welcoming Uzbekistan’s move to introduce visa-free travel.

“This is excellent news that should help unlock Uzbekistan’s incredible potential for American tourism,” Landau wrote.

In response, Allamjonov noted that during their last meeting, both Christopher Landau and the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, had raised the issue of visa liberalization for Americans. According to Allamjonov, Uzbekistan is open to tourists from the United States.

Komil Allamjonov emphasized that extending B1/B2 visas from one year to ten years would be a major step toward further strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and the United States.

On October 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a US delegation led by Special Presidential Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor. The American side also included First Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and other officials.

In May this year, President Mirziyoyev approved measures to increase tourist flows to Uzbekistan. The presidential decree also called for simplifying entry procedures for foreign visitors.

In particular, the president instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit proposals for a 30-day visa-free regime for U.S. citizens. In turn, Uzbekistan had anticipated reciprocal steps to ease visa requirements for its citizens traveling to the United States.
