Uzbekistan beat Egypt to book spot in Al Ain Cup final

Uzbekistan advanced to the final of the Al Ain Cup after securing a confident 2–0 victory over Egypt in the semi-finals of the international tournament held in Abu Dhabi. Both goals were scored by forward Oston Urunov, whose decisive performance sent Fabio Cannavaro’s side into the title match.

The four-team event, hosted in the United Arab Emirates, features the national teams of Uzbekistan, Egypt, Iran, and Cape Verde. Uzbekistan faced Egypt on 14 November in the second semi-final and delivered a disciplined display to overcome a side captained by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Urunov put Uzbekistan ahead in the fourth minute after weaving past several Egyptian defenders and finishing clinically from close range. He doubled the lead just before half-time, collecting a lofted pass from Otabek Shukurov, rounding the goalkeeper, and guiding the ball into the net.

Egypt dominated possession in the second half, but Uzbekistan’s defence held firm. Goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov produced several crucial saves to preserve the advantage and ensure a clean sheet.

The win secured Uzbekistan’s place in the final, where they will face Iran on 18 November. Iran reached the decider after defeating Cape Verde in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw. Cape Verde and Egypt will play for third place on 17 November.
