Authorities launch criminal probe after café kitchen explosion in Gulistan

A criminal case has been opened and three responsible officials have been taken into custody after the 2 December incident at the Bek Family Cafe kitchen in the Taraqqiyot neighborhood of Gulistan, where a liquefied gas cylinder exploded at around 10:50.

According to preliminary investigative findings, a 50-litre liquefied propane cylinder connected to the stove in violation of fire safety regulations leaked hydrocarbon gas, which mixed with air. The ignition of this mixture triggered a powerful explosion.

As a result, 29 people sustained burn injuries of varying severity and were taken to the Syrdarya branch of the Republican Scientific Centre for Emergency Medical Care. Three victims died from their injuries.

Five of the injured received necessary medical treatment and were discharged after their condition was assessed as satisfactory. The remaining patients continue to receive specialized in-patient care.

A criminal case has been opened under article 192¹¹ (part 1), article 257 (part 2, clauses “a”, “b”), and article 259 (part 2, clauses “a”, “b”) of the Criminal Code. Three officials of Bek Family Cafe LLC have been detained in accordance with procedural rules.

A joint investigative team led by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Head of the Investigation Department Ramazon Ashrapov is carrying out all necessary investigative actions.
