A couple stranded at Istanbul Airport after Centrum Air sold two tickets for one seat
Two passengers were left stranded at Istanbul Airport after Centrum Air oversold seats on a flight.
According to the Competition Committee, the incident occurred on September 26. A passenger purchased two tickets via the Centrum Air website for the Istanbul – Namangan route. However, due to the airline’s overbooking, the passenger and his spouse were unable to board the aircraft and were left at Istanbul Airport. One day later, they were offered seats on a forced basis on an Istanbul – Tashkent flight.
According to the Competition Committee, compensation has been paid to passengers who were unable to board the Istanbul – Namangan flight due to Centrum Air’s error.
The committee noted that although the passenger bought two tickets for the Istanbul – Namangan route on September 26, 2025, the airline’s sale of excess tickets resulted in the couple being denied boarding and stranded at the airport. After spending a day in Istanbul, they were required to return on an Istanbul – Tashkent flight, which they accepted. Dissatisfied with the situation, the passenger filed a complaint with the regional office of the Competition Committee seeking the restoration of his consumer rights.
In agreement with the passenger, Centrum Air provided the following compensation and benefits for the inconvenience caused by its error:
– €500 in compensation;
– an additional cash payment of UZS 865,200;
– a promo code offering a 20 percent discount on a future flight on any Centrum Air route;
– an additional 23 kg of free baggage allowance;
– complimentary seats in the first row of the aircraft during a flight.
