Uzbekistan approves 450 MW battery storage projects with Masdar and Eaglerise

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved two investment projects to establish electricity storage systems in the country.

The battery energy storage complexes will be built in the Navoi and Tashkent regions. The principal investors are Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar and China’s Eaglerise Development HK Company Ltd, respectively.

The system in Navoi region will have a capacity of 300 MW and be able to store up to 600 MWh of electricity. The facility in Zangiata district of Tashkent region will have a capacity of 150 MW and a storage volume of 300 MWh.

Both projects will be operated by special-purpose project companies established by the investors. These companies will be responsible for ensuring the systems’ readiness to supply guaranteed volumes of electricity.

In addition to the battery facilities themselves, the projects include the construction of substations and power transmission lines to connect them to the unified grid. Once commissioned, the assets will be transferred to the state-owned company National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan.
