Uzbekistan demands Russia protect rights of its citizens working in RF
Uzbekistan has called on Russia to ensure the protection of the rights and lawful interests of its citizens working on Russian territory, following high-level diplomatic talks held in Tashkent.
According to the MFA press service, a meeting took place on 26 January between a Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullaev and Russia’s ambassador to the country, Alexey Yerkhov. The discussions focused on the situation of Uzbek nationals engaged in labor activities in the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the two sides thoroughly reviewed current issues related to safeguarding the rights and human dignity of Uzbek citizens in Russia. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to prevent any form of discrimination or rights violations during migration inspections and enforcement operations.
Uzbekistan stressed that respect for human dignity must be ensured for all its citizens, including both law-abiding migrant workers and those who may have violated migration regulations. The Uzbek side underscored that migration control measures should be conducted in a lawful and humane manner, without degrading treatment.
The talks reaffirmed the mutual commitment of Uzbekistan and Russia to maintaining a pragmatic and respectful dialogue aimed at regulating migration processes and creating favorable conditions for the legal employment of Uzbek citizens in Russia, the ministry said.
Both parties also confirmed the importance of holding regular consular consultations and bilateral meetings to continuously improve practical cooperation and strengthen coordination on migration-related issues.
