President Mirziyoyev reviews plan to expand green areas in Tashkent

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed proposals aimed at developing urbanization processes in Tashkent and expanding green areas in and around the capital.

In recent years, Tashkent’s economy and agglomeration have grown rapidly, with the city’s permanent population exceeding 3.1 million. By 2045, the population is projected to more than double.

Officials emphasized that such growth requires urbanization processes to develop in proportion to the increasing burden on housing, transport and logistics systems, engineering infrastructure, and social facilities.

Improving the urban environment and quality of life has been identified as a key priority. In particular, authorities plan to triple the total area of green zones in Tashkent and its surrounding areas to 25,000 hectares.

The initiative also aims to increase per capita green space from 3 square meters to 6 square meters.

During the presentation, information was provided on the comprehensive review of 85 construction project proposals submitted by private initiators. The total area of these projects amounts to 2,679 hectares.

As part of the assessment process, special attention was given to evaluating each project based on a unified urban planning approach. Authorities examined the possibility of allocating at least 30 percent of each development area to green spaces, carrying out comprehensive renovation of outdated districts, and discontinuing the practice of small scale and dense construction projects on land plots of up to one hectare.

Following the review, it was proposed to approve 18 projects for implementation. Another 12 projects are to be optimized through changes to land area, number of floors, and overall design concepts. Meanwhile, 54 projects were deemed to require a complete conceptual revision.
