Uzbekistan seeks closer ties with UK Parliament to support national reform agenda
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, held a meeting in London with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons of the British Parliament.
The meeting focused on strengthening the legislative ties between the two nations. In a statement released via his official Telegram channel, Foreign Minister Saidov described the discussions as "productive," highlighting a shared commitment to enhancing parliamentary diplomacy.
The high-level talks covered several key areas of bilateral and regional interest, including:
- Legislative exchange: Promoting regular communication and knowledge sharing between the legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom.
- Regional diplomacy: Deepening parliamentary cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and Great Britain.
- Support for reforms: Emphasizing the vital role that parliaments play in supporting national reform agendas and fostering mutual understanding.
Beyond legislative affairs, the officials stressed the importance of parliamentary involvement in driving progress across a broad spectrum of sectors. Particular attention was given to expanding academic ties and exchange programs between higher education institutions, facilitating economic growth and stronger commercial links and collaborating on global environmental and economic goals.
