Inmate convicted in Komil Allamjonov assassination attempt reportedly takes own life in prison

One of the individuals convicted over the attempted assassination of Presidential Administration official Komil Allamjonov has died while serving his sentence, according to information provided to Kun.uz by the inmate’s relatives.

Ismoil Jahongirov, who had been sentenced to 23 years in prison for his role in the attack, died on February 26, 2026. Family members said they were informed that he had taken his own life while in custody.

According to the information received, Jahongirov allegedly fashioned a noose from his clothing and hanged himself inside his prison cell. He was buried on February 27.

Jahongirov had been found guilty of participating in the attempted assassination of Komil Allamjonov, an official of the Presidential Administration, which took place on October 26, 2024. On February 12, 2025, a court sentenced him to 23 years of imprisonment.

Following the attack, Jahongirov and another defendant, Shokhruh Akhmedov, published a video statement online in which they admitted to being direct perpetrators of the crime. By court verdict, Akhmedov was also sentenced to 23 years in prison.

In the same case, Shukhrat Rasulov, the former head of the Security Department of the Presidential Security Service, was convicted as the organizer of the assassination attempt and sentenced to 23 years. Javlon Yunusov, an entrepreneur who was extradited from South Korea, was sentenced to 18 years in prison as an intermediary between the client and the perpetrators.
