Uzbekistan national team to set up World Cup 2026 base camp in Atlanta
The Uzbekistan national football team will establish its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, for the duration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), the squad will reside in the city and use the training facilities of the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Atlanta United to prepare for their historic first-ever tournament appearance.
The selection is part of FIFA's comprehensive logistical plan, which has designated 61 base camp locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. These sites are strategically assigned to minimize travel burdens based on the geography of the host cities and stadiums where matches will take place.
Group K opponents secure training sites
As Uzbekistan finalizes its arrangements, its Group K rivals have also confirmed their base camp locations:
- Portugal will be based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
- Colombia has selected Columbus, Ohio, as its primary training hub.
During the group stage, teams will travel to their respective match venues via specialized charter flights provided by FIFA, returning to their designated base camps immediately after each game to continue their training programs.
Uzbekistan is set to compete in Group K, a quartet that promises intense competition as the tournament expands to a 48-team format. The "White Wolves" will face South American powerhouse Colombia, European giants Portugal, and the winner of the intercontinental play-off (to be decided between DR Congo, Jamaica, and New Caledonia).
