Senate confirms Umid Shodiev as Uzbekistan’s new Ambassador to UAE
During the 14th plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, Umid Shodiev was officially confirmed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the United Arab Emirates.
The Senate emphasized that this appointment is vital for the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and the UAE. Both nations are currently focused on deepening mutual trust and expanding practical cooperation across several key sectors, including trade, economy, investment, innovation, and tourism.
Senators highlighted that Umid Shodiev possesses extensive knowledge and the necessary practical skills in the field of foreign policy. His potential to effectively promote Uzbekistan's national interests on the international stage was a primary factor in his confirmation. Prior to this diplomatic posting, Shodiev served as the Chairman of the Tourism Committee, a role he held until December of last year.
In a direct exchange of positions, Umid Shodiev succeeds Abdulaziz Akkulov, who previously served as the Uzbek Ambassador in Abu Dhabi. In December, Akkulov was recalled from his diplomatic mission to take over the leadership of the Tourism Committee, the very post Shodiev is now vacating to begin his tenure in the United Arab Emirates.
