As Tashkent’s population and visitor numbers grow amid rapid urban expansion and rising demand for public transport, officials have unveiled plans to further develop the metro system. The proposals aim to raise daily passenger capacity to 1.8 million, expand the network to 79 stations, and extend its total length to 103 kilometers by 2030, while gradually reducing train intervals to 1.5–3 minutes.
Officials presented a range of measures to strengthen infrastructure and improve financial sustainability. Between 2026 and 2028, they will prioritize upgrading technical systems, enhancing service quality, and modernizing civil defense facilities across the metro network.
To improve passenger safety, officials proposed a pilot project to install platform screen doors at Shahriston station. International experience shows that such barriers can reduce platform-related incidents by 80–90% while also generating additional advertising revenue.

Plans for new metro lines were also reviewed, including the preparation of design and cost estimates for the Mingurik–Chilanzar Clothing Market route. The first phase will assess the feasibility of the Mingurik–Southern Railway Station segment, followed by an extension to the Chilanzar Clothing Market area.
Officials also outlined initiatives to diversify metro revenues. These include leasing digital advertising space in trains and stations through auctions, installing vending machines and small retail outlets, developing parking facilities near stations, and offering vacant premises for co-working spaces and small offices. To improve connectivity with private transport, officials also proposed introducing a Park & Ride system.
Regarding fleet renewal and depot construction, officials plan to acquire new rolling stock between 2027 and 2030 and allocate land for a new electric depot to serve future trains.

A broader Tashkent Metro development strategy for 2027–2035 was also presented. It envisions doubling the network, increasing passenger traffic by 2.5 times, and building a more energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable, and safe urban transport system. Reforms to the fare system were also considered, including the introduction of distance-based pricing and various travel passes.
The president stressed the strategic importance of public transport, particularly the metro, as a core element of urban infrastructure.
