Belgium to open embassy in Tashkent
The Belgian government has decided to open an embassy in Tashkent, marking a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations with Uzbekistan, according to reports by Belgian media outlets EU Reporter and EU Reflect.
Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Belgium were established in 1992. While Uzbekistan has operated an embassy in Brussels since 1995 to manage its interactions with both Belgium and European institutions, the opening of a Belgian diplomatic mission in Tashkent signifies a new phase of bilateral partnership.
Media reports highlight that cooperation between the two countries has intensified noticeably in recent years. This momentum has been supported by ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at liberalizing the economy, improving the investment climate, and expanding international cooperation.
Uzbekistan and Belgium continue to develop their interaction across various sectors, including trade, investments, logistics, industry, education, and tourism. Interparliamentary contacts, alongside regular dialogue at the governmental and business levels, play a key role in strengthening these ties.
The establishment of the Belgian diplomatic mission in Tashkent is expected to further expand political dialogue, increase mutual trade and investment, and facilitate the implementation of new joint projects.
