IAEA chief arrives in Tashkent, reaffirms support for Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy program
Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva met with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the ceremony marking the start of construction of a nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region.
During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in developing the country's nuclear energy infrastructure, expanding nuclear medicine, and training specialists for the sector.

Grossi's visit comes as Uzbekistan moves forward with plans to establish its national nuclear energy industry. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in building the institutional and technical foundations necessary for the development of the sector.

Earlier, during talks with the leadership of the Agency for the Development of Nuclear Energy under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan (Uzatom), Grossi reaffirmed the IAEA’s readiness to continue supporting the implementation of Uzbekistan’s nuclear program.

The IAEA chief also positively assessed Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop a national nuclear infrastructure and praised the country's consistent approach to advancing nuclear energy in line with international standards and the agency’s recommendations.
