Following a visit to the Lolazor neighborhood in the capital's Mirabad district, Mirziyoyeva said she had seen trees planted by residents cut down and uprooted, while a children's playground was set to be replaced by a business center.
"People have every reason to cry out for help. Shared courtyards, playgrounds and sports grounds across the capital are being completely destroyed because of construction projects," she said in a Telegram post.
Mirziyoyeva said public spaces must not be converted into office or residential developments and should remain available for their intended public use.
She announced that the Prosecutor General's Office would carry out a citywide inventory of such sites to examine whether construction permits had been issued lawfully, urban planning regulations had been followed, and residents' rights had been respected.
According to Mirziyoyeva, officials found responsible for violations will face strict disciplinary and legal consequences. In cases where the law provides, those responsible could also face criminal prosecution and imprisonment.
