Mirziyoyev highlighted the country’s key social and economic achievements of the past 10 years at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, where state awards were presented to distinguished citizens.
During the period, Uzbekistan attracted more than $160 billion in foreign investment and created 5.7 million permanent jobs in industry, services and agriculture, according to the president.
Significant progress was also made in social infrastructure. Government and private-sector projects delivered modern schools with capacity for 1.5 million students, kindergartens serving 342,000 children and hospitals with a total of 62,000 beds.
Over the past decade, 83,000 kilometers of roads were built or renovated, Mirziyoyev said.
He added that 8 million people had gained access to centralized drinking water supplies for the first time, while services had been improved for another 11.5 million residents.
The president also said 650,000 families had moved into new housing over the past 10 years.
