The government has allocated 300 billion Uzbek soums this year for a social support package aimed at providing a source of “passive income” for families in need who are unable to work.
Half of the 11,000 families that received the assistance have seen a significant increase in their incomes.
Authorities have been instructed to submit a draft decision within a week on continuing the programme.
“Starting next year, vouchers will cover fees for state and private kindergartens, learning centres, transportation and university dormitories for children from families included in the register,” the president said.
The vouchers will be issued for 12 months and will remain valid even after a family is removed from the Social Register.
