“I am very happy to announce that today Google is launching GPay – Google Pay – in Uzbekistan,” Krasuski said during a panel discussion on digital technologies in Samarkand.
The announcement was made at a session held as part of C5+1 events involving the United States and Central Asian countries. The session brought together government officials and representatives of major companies.
The launch follows changes to Uzbekistan’s personal data legislation that removed a major obstacle to the entry of international payment platforms. In March 2026, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed amendments easing the requirement to store personal data on servers inside the country, while retaining stricter rules for biometric and genetic data and telecommunications subscriber information.
In July, the Central Bank said it was working with commercial banks and domestic payment systems Uzcard and Humo on the technical integration of Google Pay and Apple Pay. The discussions covered support for cards issued under international payment networks, including Visa and Mastercard, as well as domestic payment systems.
The announcement did not specify which banks or cards will support Google Pay at launch.
