President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the proposals with Rafael Santana, chairman and chief executive officer of Wabtec, during a meeting on October 19.
The talks covered the renewal and expansion of Uzbekistan’s locomotive fleet, including potential supplies backed by long-term maintenance and service agreements and involving US financial institutions.
The two sides also discussed establishing locomotive maintenance facilities in Uzbekistan, manufacturing spare parts and training specialists. The proposals come as the country develops its railway infrastructure and seeks to strengthen its role as a regional transit hub.
Other areas of potential cooperation included setting up a service center for mining companies’ quarry equipment and working together on diesel generator sets.
