“There are 1 million 391 thousand people in Uzbekistan who are in need of employment” – Minister of Labor
On May 22, 2019, the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Kudbiyev reported on the work done in the first quarter of 2019 to ensure employment and create new jobs at the extended meeting of the Committee on Labor and Social Issues under the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
It is noted that currently the number of able-bodied population is 18,954 thousand people (growth – 1.0%), the number of unemployed – 13,376 thousand (growth – 1.3%). Employees of the official sector accounted for 5,403 thousand persons (an increase of 3.4%), the share of official employment in the total employment is 40.5%. Employees in the informal sector of the economy – 7,964 thousand (59,5%), including those working abroad – 2,365,400.
The unemployment rate in the first quarter of this year was 9.4% (9.7% in the same period last year), among young people under the age of 30 – 15.3% and among women – 13%. The highest unemployment rate was recorded in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Syrdarya and Ferghana regions (9.7%). The number of people who are in need of employment is 1 million 391 thousand people, the ministry said.
Within the framework of the reporting period, the state of the labor market in Uzbekistan, employment, the first public procurement mechanism for arrangement of new jobs, labor migration, vocational training, funding the active policy in the labor market and the works carried out by private employment agencies in the last 3-4 months have been critically analyzed.
