Uzbekistan plans to mitigate punishment for defamation and insult
Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis have considered the draft law “On amendments and additions to the Criminal Code and the Code on Administrative Liability”.

According to Kun.uz source, the document provides for an exclusion from the Criminal Code of the norm related to imprisonment for libel and insult.
“The existing punishment in the form of restriction of liberty or imprisonment up to 1 year has been changed to fine or compulsory public works,” the statement says.
The deputies also proposed to introduce criminal and administrative liability for the dissemination of false information.
There were also plans to increase fines for the distribution of pornography and propaganda of cruelty.
The deputies approved the draft law and sent it to the Senate.
