Uzbekistan sees 48% surge in foreign tourist arrivals

The number of tourists visiting Uzbekistan has increased by 48.2% in just one year, according to data published by the National Statistics Committee.
Between January and May 2025, Uzbekistan welcomed 4.2 million foreign visitors for tourism purposes. This figure is 1.4 million more than during the same period in 2024, marking a 48.2% year-on-year increase.
Countries with the highest number of tourists in Uzbekistan (Jan–May 2025):
- Kyrgyzstan – 1,280,100 visitors
- Tajikistan – 993,700 visitors
- Kazakhstan – 889,600 visitors
- Russia – 334,300 visitors
- Afghanistan – 199,200 visitors
- Turkmenistan – 142,500 visitors
- Turkey – 65,800 visitors
- China – 51,900 visitors
- India – 28,500 visitors
- Italy – 17,400 visitors
- Other countries – 201,100 visitors
Comparison with January–May 2023:
In the first five months of 2023, a total of 2.6 million foreign tourists visited Uzbekistan. The majority came from:
- Tajikistan – 797,800 visitors
- Kazakhstan – 656,500 visitors
- Kyrgyzstan – 649,500 visitors
This means that over a two-year period, the number of Kyrgyz tourists has doubled. Chinese tourism has also seen dramatic growth: only 9,600 Chinese tourists visited in early 2023, but that number has increased more than fivefold by 2025.
