Uzbekistan’s winter forecast predicts mild December followed by severe cold

According to the seasonal forecast of the Hydrometeorological Service, the winter of 2025–2026 in Uzbekistan is expected to be generally close to long-term climatic norms. While December is forecast to be relatively mild, certain days in January and February, particularly in the northwest of the country, may see anomalous cold spells.

December is expected to be slightly warmer than usual. Average monthly temperatures are projected to be 1–1.5° above the norm. During the first ten days of the month, the weather will be mostly warm, with nighttime temperatures between 0…+5° and daytime temperatures around +10…+15°. In the second and third ten-day periods, temperatures will fluctuate sharply: nighttime temperatures may range from +2…+7° down to 0…–5°, while daytime temperatures may drop from +12…+17° to +2…+7°. Monthly precipitation is expected to be near or slightly below normal.

January is forecast to be generally close to long-term norms, though slightly colder conditions are possible in some regions. During the first and second ten-day periods, temperatures will vary widely: nighttime readings may shift from +3…+8° to –3…–8°, while daytime temperatures may fluctuate from +10…+15° to –2…+3°. In the third ten-day period, anomalous cold is expected: nighttime temperatures may fall to –12…–17° in most regions, with daytime temperatures dropping to –5…–10°. Around Nukus and Urgench, nighttime temperatures could fall as low as –20…–25°.

February is expected to be close to long-term norms. Anomalous cold is forecast to persist in the first ten-day period, with nighttime temperatures at –5…–10° and daytime temperatures at –3…+2°. Considerable warming is expected in the second and third ten-day periods: nighttime temperatures may rise from –2…–7° to +3…+8°, while daytime temperatures may increase from 0…+5° to +10…+15°. In southern regions, daytime temperatures may reach +15…+20° on some days. Overall, precipitation levels are expected to be within normal ranges.

Officials note that such seasonal forecasts help the public and key economic sectors prepare in advance for potential cold waves and adverse weather conditions. They also emphasize that the forecast is not final and may change depending on evolving meteorological conditions.
