Advertising fast food and energy drinks for children to be limited

It is also proposed to create a list of foods that are not recommended for consumption in schools and kindergartens.

Recently, the Ministry of Health developed and published a draft national strategy “Public health – 2030”.

The policy document outlines the goal of reducing the problem of obesity among Uzbek citizens. By the end of the decade, the goal is to reduce the proportion of the overweight population by 50%, and among children and youth by 30%, the ministry’s press service noted.

This is expected to be achieved through the promotion of healthy nutrition in preschool institutions and schools. Along with this, measures will be taken to combat habits that contribute to weight gain.

Thus, it is planned to compile a list of products not recommended for consumption in educational institutions. These include products high in sugar, salt, trans fats, as well as flavor enhancers and dyes.

The strategy prescribes the introduction of additional requirements for advertising of unhealthy foods, baby food, energy drinks, as well as medicines and dietary supplements aimed at children. Tightening restrictions for such advertising materials is envisaged.

At the same time, recommendations will be developed on proper nutrition, physical activity and hygiene for children based on their age, physique, lifestyle and tendency to disease. This is planned to be done before the end of this year.
