Otabek Umarov takes permanent role as OCA Vice President, overseeing olympism in Central Asia

Otabek Umarov has been elected Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for the Central Asia region, the National Olympic Committee reports.

New Delhi hosted the OCA General Assembly, during which elections for the leadership positions of the organization were held. Raja Randhir Singh, who had been serving as the interim president, was elected as the President of the OCA. Additionally, Vice Presidents for five regions were elected.

"It is worth noting that Otabek Umarov has been elected Vice President of the organization for the Central Asia region, which includes Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Afghanistan," stated the committee’s report.

Previously, Umarov held a temporary position as Vice President for the Tashkent-2025 Asian Youth Games. While this interim position was valid until the end of the event, the role of Vice President for Central Asia is permanent, and he will now be responsible for the development of Olympism in one of the five regions of the continent.

During the event, Otabek Umarov spoke about the increasing global recognition of sports in our continent, highlighting that four Asian countries ranked among the top 15 at the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games as clear evidence of this.
