UNESCO: World discovered the richness of Uzbek people's heritage
Spanish city of Valencia hosted the conference "Uzbekistan on the Great Silk Road", organized by the Embassy of our country in Madrid with the assistance of the UNESCO Centre in the Mediterranean region and the Spanish Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO.
The event was attended by representatives of political, business and expert circles, travel agencies of the country, as well as residents and visitors.
The participants learned about the role of c ancestors of the Uzbek people in the development of the Silk Road and their invaluable contribution to the expansion of trade, scientific and cultural relations between East and West. As noted, being in the heart of a major transcontinental route and at the crossroads of civilizations, this land for centuries served as an important conduit of scientific knowledge, technology and innovation, philosophical ideas.
It was emphasized that the monuments of past epochs today with care and attention are preserved and transmitted to future generations, demonstrated tourists visiting Uzbekistan, as part of the World Cultural Heritage of Humanity. They are an important factor in the development of the tourism industry, which is gaining momentum and provides a high level of service.
The next significant step in the development of tourism and the intensification of cultural dialogue and co-operation along the Great Silk Road became 99th session of the Executive Board of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held in 2014 in Samarkand.
At the forum in Valencia, special attention was drawn to the fact that peace and stability, mutual respect and consent of the atmosphere, the Uzbek hospitality, and a modern tourist infrastructure are important factors which serve consecutive increase in tourist flow to our country.

I would also like to note the attention given to the revival of cultural and tourist links along the Silk Road in UNESCO. Samarkand Declaration, adopted in 1994, occupies a special place in the efforts of our organization in this direction. We would like to restore the multifaceted contacts between the cities through which the caravans were not only rare goods, but also the knowledge, culture and art.
- Your country has enormous tourist potential, remarkable architectural monuments and buildings that are at all times attracted fans of art and culture from around the world, director of travel agency Viajes Azul Marino Fernando Sanchez noted. - Visiting Uzbekistan, tourists can see a real ancient East to the legendary cities of the Silk Road - Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara, taste the unique dishes of Uzbek national cuisine. Therefore, your Republic has become one of the most desirable destinations for European and Spanish tourists every year. I would like to emphasize that they are returning with huge impressions, admired by the Uzbek hospitality.
Recently, in collaboration with the Spanish National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, we launched a new project "Journey on the Silk Road", which Uzbekistan has a special place. In the near future, we will send another group of tourists from Valencia unmatched journey through historic towns of the republic.
