Uzbekistan intends to introduce environmental tax for harmful products
Starting from January 1, 2019, an environmental tax may be imposed on imported and local products, which are harmful to the environment after the loss of consumer properties.
The initiative is aimed at improving ecological situation in Uzbekistan and prevent harmful effects of waste on people's health. Besides, it is expected that the project will encourage the development of slowly-evolving spheres such as recycling and reprocessing.
The list of items planned to be taxed includes 8 products: motor oils, tires, pumps, rubber cameras, bottles, jars, batteries and bulbs.
The collected funds from the environmental tax will be transferred to the Fund for Ecology, Environmental Protection and Waste Management with a targeted focus on financing activities in the field of waste management, as well as other goals related to environmental protection.
