Turkmenistan restricted its citizens to withdraw cash through ATMs of Uzbekistan
Currently, cardholders of the banks of Turkmenistan cannot withdraw money through ATMs in Uzbekistan.
According to the correspondent of “Azatlyk” in Turkmenistan, Turkmens often visit foreign countries, including Uzbekistan, to withdraw cash from bank cards in foreign currency.
“Previously, people used to go to Uzbekistan to extract money from their cards because of the closeness of border and convenience to drive. Especially, those who live in border areas traveled regularly. In Uzbekistan, they were able to convert national currency into dollars”, “Azatlyk” correspondent noted.
According to the information of “Azatlyk”, approximately 2-3 months ago, restrictions on banking operations on plastic cards in Uzbekistan were introduced by the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan informed “Azatlyk” that ATMs in Tashkent provide an opportunity to withdraw money in US dollars. Nevertheless, the Uzbek banks have no concern over the Turkmen bank's decision. It was clarified that one can withdraw cash in Tashkent ATMs up to $400 a day.
