Uzbekistan to export over 6,200 types of goods to the European market duty-free

The European Union is ready to provide Uzbekistan the opportunity to supply more than 6,200 types of goods to the European market duty-free.

This was announced following the visit of the Uzbek governmental delegation headed by the Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov to Brussels.

The Uzbek delegation participated in the 14th meeting of “Uzbekistan-European Union Cooperation Council”, following the inter-regional meeting “European Union-Central Asia”. The delegates from Uzbekistan held bilateral talks with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, the EU Commissioner for cooperation and development Neven Mimica, Austrian Minister for Foreign Affairs at the EU Karin Kneissl and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Belgium Didier Reynders.

“The European Union has confirmed its readiness to assist Uzbekistan in obtaining unilateral tariff benefits within the framework of the “Generalized System of Preferences”. This will facilitate the duty-free entry of more than 6,200 types of Uzbek goods into the European market,” the press service of the MFA noted.

The parties also agreed to begin intensive work on the preparation and holding of the Uzbek-European summit in Brussels. Official visit of the head of Uzbekistan to Belgium is expected in early 2019. This should open new chapters in the history of bilateral relations.

At the meetings, it was repeatedly stressed that the EU is paying particular attention to the accession of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization. The European side promised to contribute to this process.
