Uzbekistan changes the terms of military conscription

The President of Uzbekistan signed a decree “On additional measures to improve the procedure of military service by the citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

The document was adopted in order to further improve the procedure for recruiting citizens for military service and creating favorable conditions for them during their period of service in the Armed Forces of the Republic.

According to the document, starting from 2019, conscription for military service of citizens who are not entitled to deferment of conscription will be held annually in March and April.

Earlier, citizens were called up in February-March.

In accordance with the press service of the Ministry of Defense, the timing of conscription for military service in February-March causes a number of difficulties in ensuring the required temperature in the premises of recruiting and assembly points and an increase in expenses for these purposes. In most cases, adverse weather conditions impede the timely arrival of draftees from remote areas of the republic to the assembly points. In addition, poor condition of roads in winter adversely affects the implementation of draft arrangements.

It should be recalled that at the meeting of the Security Council held on November 28, 2018, the Supreme Commander Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to postpone the recruitment to military service and dismissal to the military reserve from February-March to March-April.
