With the large potential of coal deposits in recent years, plans for coal mining have not been fulfilled, system problems in the industry have not been eliminated, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting on the issues of sustainable development of the coal industry.

Now the population of the republic annually receives a million tons of coal. Another 400,000 tons of coal are sent to social facilities. At the New-Angren and Angren thermal power plants, 4 million tons of coal are burned to generate electricity.

As the president noted, the technical and technological base of the fields is outdated. In the Angren deposit, which is the main source of raw materials, the work on opening mines falls behind. Inclination bort of the pit has exceeded the norm, and the conditions for mining operations have reached a dangerous level.

To address these issues, it is planned to transfer the JSC Uzbekkumir to an external professional management.

During the meeting, measures to improve the situation in the Angren field have been identified. The need to work out a strategy for development of the Angren deposit, providing for maximum provision of the needs of economic sectors and population for coal in the near and long term has been noted.

The President paid special attention to improving the financial sustainability of the JSC Uzbekkumir. He instructed the Ministries of Finance and Energy to optimize coal tariffs, increase profitability of the industry and cover investment costs.

Mirziyoyev noted that for effective organization of quarry work it is necessary to update the fleet of vehicles. He instructed the responsible persons to purchase the necessary dump trucks and other special equipment by the most optimal offers.

At the meeting, the issues of ensuring the safety of population living near the southern boundary of the Angren field were also discussed.
