Uzbekistan has always occupied a principled position in the fight against international terrorism.
This was declared on April 18 in St. Petersburg by the chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldashev at a conference on combating international terrorism, Evrazesnews reports.
He noted that international terrorism has become “one of the most pressing issues of the modern world, which has acquired a global character”. At the same time, he said that everyone in Uzbekistan is convinced that such threats must be fought “not only by force, but also by education”, including by forming a stable immunity in the population against the ideology of terrorism.
The Speaker drew attention of the event participants to the fact that the majority of people think that there is a false identification of Islam with terrorism.
“Islam brings up such qualities as kindness, love, ability to forgive, promoting the desire for knowledge. We offer all our foreign partners in close cooperation in conveying the humanistic essence of Islam,” Nigmatulla Yuldashev added.
Mr. Yuldashev noted that adoption of the resolution “Education and religious tolerance” during the plenary session of the UN General Assembly on December 12, 2018, is an important event in this regard.
In addition, Nigmatilla Yuldashev believes that it is necessary to continue the work on the rehabilitation and reintegration of those who mistakenly entered into the path of violence. Today, he said, Uzbekistan pays special attention to returning the people, who sincerely repented and embarked on the path of correction, to normal life. According to the Speaker, this is much more effective than rejecting these people from public life.
