Corruption causes over UZS 1.5 trillion damage to the economy of Uzbekistan in H1
Over the past 6 months of 2019, corruption caused the state UZS 1.5 trillion damage. Of this, 97.3% were levied. The head of the department of public relations and legal information of the Prosecutor General’s Office Hayot Shamsutdinov said.
According to him, over the past 6 months of this year, 590 criminal cases were initiated against 661 officials of various categories. 537 people were prosecuted on 398 criminal cases, and investigations are underway on the remaining criminal proceedings, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
In addition, Shamsutdinov said that 25 of the officials involved in corruption, whose crimes have been disclosed, were leaders of the republican level.
“25 officials, involved in criminal cases, have been working in the republican level, 36 – in the regions and 476 executives – in the ministries, departments and enterprises. As a result of these crimes, the state suffered damage in the amount of 1 trillion 665 billion 757 million 196 thousand soums. In the course of the investigation, 1 trillion 621 billion 503 million 587 thousand or 97.3% were collected, the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
At the briefing, the types of corruption-related crimes were also clarified.
“Among the employees, who were brought to criminal responsibility, 250 people were convicted on embezzlement of other’s property, 48 – on intentional evasion of taxes or other obligatory payments, 71 – on bribing or mediating in bribes, 51 – on fraud, 23 – on abusing one’s power, 18 – on exceeding authorities, 4 – on neglecting responsibilities, 7 – on forged activities and 65 – on other crimes,” Shamsutdinov said.
