MIFT: It may take about 5-7 years for Uzbekistan to join the WTO

Today, September 19, at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications, a press conference was held to study the presidential decree “On measures to improve the management system in the sphere of investment and foreign trade”, signed on January 28, 2019.
During the event, Chief Legal Adviser of the MIFT Feruzbek Kurbanov commented on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
“Work is being done on this issue, and a special Deputy Minister has been appointed. In May, we submitted documents to the WTO. Now, every member state of the organization has its own questions about our economy, and we have to reply them. Usually it takes 5-7 years for countries to join the WTO. We are now at the initial phase,” the ministry’s official said.
