Uzbekistan delegation attends International Conference on Population and Development
The delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by the chairman of the Senate Committee of Oliy Majlis on science, education, culture and sports Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev, took part in the summit on the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in the city of Nairobi (Kenya).
The high-level forum, organized by the Governments of Kenya and Denmark, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, was aimed at demonstrating political will and mobilizing financial resources for the full implementation of the ICPD Action Plan. The summit was attended by delegations from 179 states.
The main topics of discussion were such issues as universal access to reproductive health and rights as part of universal health coverage, ensuring sufficient funding to achieve the ICPD goals, using demographic diversity to stimulate economic growth and achieve sustainable development in the world, and preventing violence against girls and women, ensuring reproductive healthcare in the humanitarian situation and in conflict zones.
The delegation of Uzbekistan informed the world community about large-scale reforms being carried out in the country to radically improve the quality of life of the population, build a democratic state and a fair society, ensure human rights and interests.
An important step in this direction was the adoption of laws in 2019 aimed at protecting the reproductive health of citizens and ensuring gender equality. It is planned to fully integrate the basic reproductive health measures for all citizens into the universal health coverage package. The work is continuing to introduce comprehensive education on healthy lifestyles at schools so that adolescents have enough knowledge to make informed choices about their reproductive health.
During the conference, an exchange of views on issues of gender equality, reproductive health, motherhood and childhood, as well as other relevant topics of the program took place.
