UNAIDS office opens in Uzbekistan
The country office of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has opened in Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Health reports about this.
“With the opening of the UNAIDS country office in Uzbekistan, efforts will be redoubled in reducing new HIV infections, providing access to testing and treatment, as well as reducing HIV stigma and discrimination,” the Ministry of Health said.
Today, over 42,000 people with HIV infection live in Uzbekistan, of which nearly 28,000 are undergoing appropriate treatment.
According to the Ministry of Health, the country has adopted the relevant legal documents, which allow achieving a “new qualitative level in the field of HIV diagnosis, early detection of the infection, timely implementation of preventive measures and the provision of medical-social assistance to people living with HIV”.
