On December 19-20, Tashkent hosted a meeting between the leaders of the railway services of five countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with the participation of Uzbekistan’s Transport Ministry to develop an international multimodal route.
According to the press service of Uzbekistan Railways, this is the first meeting initiated by the Uzbek side together with the “corridor participants”, at which priority issues were considered to increase the volume of cargo transportation across the territory of the countries participating in the international project.
During the meeting, unified transit tariff rates and conditions for the transportation of goods along the route were established, and the logistics infrastructure was discussed. The parties also agreed to establish a Coordination Committee uniting the heads of railways of the participating countries, chaired by the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.
The launch of a pilot transit container train along the multimodal route is planned for the first quarter of 2020.
Following the meeting, the parties signed the final protocol.
