Tanzila Narbayeva: People are suffering from food poisoning but the ministry does not care about it
On December 24, the plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis raised the issue of sanitary-epidemiological wellbeing of the population in the catering and education sectors, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva said that food poisoning cases have increased, and listed systemic shortcomings in the field.
“Not only one agency is responsible for the quality of foodstuffs. The quality of agricultural products should also be monitored. The production, storage, delivery, sale of products – all of them are directly related to the problem that we are discussing.
Outsourcing method is being used in educational institutions. However, it is impossible to inspect the entrepreneur’s activity. No one knows how he is operating, what kind of food he is cooking. We have to think about children’s health,” she said.
The Senate Chairperson heavily criticized the Health Ministry’s approach to the issue of food poisoning. She noted that even though they were invited, neither the minister nor any of his deputies attended the meeting devoted to this issue.
“People are suffering from food poisoning. More than half of children have anemia. But the Ministry of Health does not care about it. In fact, the problem belongs to them. Let people get poisoned, let them die, and let them give birth to anemic children – the ministry does not care at all.
They did not come to the meeting, this shows how they react to the problem. How can such an “attitude” be understood?” Narbayeva said.
