Traffic police officers required to use body cameras from January 1
From January 1, 2020, traffic patrol officers will be required to use body cameras, when performing duties, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
Since September 19, 50 police officers of the capital (including 32 traffic policemen and 18 officers of the patrol and guard service) performed duties in a test mode with body-cameras.
It should be recalled that from July 1 of this year in Uzbekistan, each employee of the traffic patrol service, when performing duties, should have had a mobile video camera. However, the excessive red tape and bureaucracy, shown by the leadership of the State Committee on the Defense Industry and the Interior Ministry, led to the failure of the deadlines.
After that, the government adopted a resolution “On additional measures to provide employees of internal affairs bodies with mobile video surveillance equipment”.
According to the document, until January 1, 2020, all employees of the traffic patrol units and the patrol-post service of the internal affairs bodies will be provided with mobile video cameras and tablets.
Reportedly, the use of body cameras will ensure transparency in the performance of the employee’s tasks and eliminate any controversy between the driver and the inspector.
