Uzbekistan, UK aim to implement joint investment projects
On December 23, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with the Board Chairman of the British consulting company SupplyFinder, Lord Waverly, and an independent member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament John Desmond Forbes Anderson.
John Anderson was one of the international observers for parliamentary elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis. He shared his impressions about the election process, noting its full compliance with international standards, absolute transparency, as well as unimpeded access of voters to the polling stations. He hoped that the elections would be the starting point in further enhancing close and fruitful cooperation between the newly elected deputies of the Parliament of Uzbekistan and MPs of Great Britain.
During the meetings, issues of bilateral investment and trade-economic cooperation, the potential of which currently remains largely untapped, were considered. The need for close collaboration between the business circles of the two countries with the aim of exploring opportunities for implementing joint investment projects, financial-technical cooperation and the conclusion of mutually beneficial trade agreements was noted.
In this context, the parties also talked about the recent business forum – UzInvest Forum 2019, held in London, which showed the high interest of British business in the Uzbek market and great prospects for investing in the economy of Uzbekistan. According to the mutual opinion of the meeting participants, a systematic and focused practice of holding such events will allow Uzbek and British entrepreneurs to find common interests, identifying priority areas for joint projects and initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov invited Lord Waverley to participate in the International Investment Forum, which will be held in Tashkent in 2020 and will become an effective platform for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and the world business community.
