CEC makes a statement on conclusions of international observers following the elections

Conclusions and recommendations of international observers on the results of the 22 December elections to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis will form the basis of work to further improve the election legislation and electoral practice, the CEC stated.

In total, over 800 observers from 50 foreign countries and 10 international organizations, as well as over 130 representatives of foreign media carried out monitoring and coverage of the elections.

It is noted that the missions and delegations of international observers presented a number of recommendations for further improving the electoral legislation and electoral practices, bringing them into line with international standards and best practices in the field of truly democratic elections.

In particular, in a statement on preliminary conclusions of the OSCE PA and ODIHR international election observation mission, certain facts of violations (voting without IDs, cases of “voting on behalf of all family members”, insufficient representation of women in political and public life of the country, lack of independent candidates and the ability to observe the elections by civil society institutions and others) have been indicated.

“The Central Election Commission declares with full responsibility that the conclusions and recommendations of international observers will form the basis for a systematic and consistent work to further improve the electoral law and electoral practice, and also expresses its readiness to continue a constructive dialogue in this field with all interested parties,” the CEC noted.

Currently, the Central Election Commission has already begun a thorough study and in-depth analysis of the election results, as well as statements by international and foreign observers to develop a comprehensive plan of measures to further improve the electoral process, implement the voiced conclusions and recommendations.

Moreover, the CEC decided to hold an international conference in the second quarter of 2020 with the participation of all interested parties of national and international level to exchange views on the results of the elections, consider the most important recommendations and ways to implement them.

The CEC expressed hope for further constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of elections with international organizations and foreign countries.
