Global coronavirus cases exceed 8 million
Confirmed COVID-19 cases have exceeded 8 million globally, with over 435,000 fatalities and more than 3.8 million recoveries, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.
The US, Brazil and the UK have reported the most deaths.
WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreysus has warned that countries need to “stay alert to the possibility of resurgence” as new clusters of cases emerge in Beijing and more than 100,000 cases of coronavirus are reported across the world every day.
The Chinese capital city is in a critical situation with coronavirus prevention following the fresh cluster of infections linked to its Xinfadi wholesale market, said Cai Qi, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Monday.
