Pulat Bobojonov commented on the cases of use of force by police officers
At the sixth plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, Minister of Internal Affairs Pulat Bobojonov briefed on the activities of the ministry.
During the briefing, the Bobojonov touched upon the issue of employees in the internal affairs system who use force against citizens and abuse their position.
“There are some unscrupulous employees in the system, who use torture to expose crimes and work in an old-fashioned way. In the Chirakchi district and the city of Andijan, police officers used the torture method and caused the death of people. This has led to widespread public discussion, the formation of a negative view of the system. Previously, such cases were not covered in the media, the population was not told. As a result of the current openness policy, these shortcomings in the system are becoming apparent.
We are identifying and dismissing employees who work in this way. In particular, in the first six months of this year, at the initiative of the MIA security inspectorate, 5 cases of illegal detention and violence were identified and the necessary materials were sent to the prosecutor’s office for legal action. The actions of 822 employees were reviewed, of which 173 were dismissed from the system, 114 were dismissed from their positions, 65 managers were transferred to another position,” he said.
Pulat Bobojonov informed about the work being done to “clean” the internal affairs system from wrongdoers.
“As a result of attestation, 3,500 DIA deputy heads serving in the system for educational work have been dismissed, and 104 have been given probation.
Drawing the right conclusion from the Andijan incident, it was decided that the interview with those who were brought to the DIA building would be held only in one designated room, the process would be recorded on a video camera. The investigation departments also stipulated that the investigation should take place only in the designated room. The first head at places and the head of the investigation department have been held responsible for this matter,” Kun.uz correspondent quoted the minister as saying.
