Uzbekistan replaces biometric passports with ID-cards
Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed the decree “On measures to introduce ID-cards in the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
According to the document, biometric passports of citizens of Uzbekistan, residence permits of stateless persons and citizens of foreign states will be replaced by ID-cards:
- at the first stage – from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, on a voluntary basis for those who have reached the age of 16;
- at the second stage – from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2030, on a mandatory basis for everyone.
It should be noted that from January 1, 2030, biometric passports of the 2011 model will be considered invalid.
“A state fee is levied for registration of an ID-card in the amount established by the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On state fees”,” the document says.
The ID-card will be issued within one business day after the relevant documents are submitted.
