Joe Biden takes oath of office, officially becomes 46th US President

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have taken an oath at the US Capitol as the President and Vice-President of the United States of America.

Biden, a 78-year-old former Vice-President and long-time Senator, has become the 46th President of the country.

In his first address as the US President, Joe Biden spoke of unifying the country.

“Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation… I will be the President for all Americans. To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America requires so much more than words and requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy, unity. Uniting to fight the foes we face – anger, resentment, hatred, extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness, and hopelessness. With unity, we can do great things, important things,” Biden said.

Former President Donald Trump and his family skipped the swearing-in ceremony.
